It’s been a while since I last blogged. Spent the weekend with the kids. Made breakfast with Zune which they seemed to have enjoyed (thank goodness, no one was hospitalised due to food poisoning!). Had home-baked muffins that Rackermann’s mother baked for them – they were tasty.
Last Friday, on the way home from picking up the kids, we stopped at Stellenbosch to have dinner at Man’oushe but it was fully booked (as always) so we walked for a bit and found this really chic Italian restaurant – Col Cacchio. For those who are not familiar with Stellenbosch, you might have passed this restaurant several times as it is hidden amongst the roads, buildings and row of shops.
I love some of the restaurants here in Cape Town as they are mostly children-friendly restaurants. These restaurants always have ways to keep the children busy while waiting for the food to arrive. Such as that of Col Cacchio - as soon as you and your children are seated, the staff will bring a plate of dough, a box of crayons, cookie-moulds, small rolling pin etc for the children to roll and shape the dough. After your children are done designing their dough, the dough will be baked for you to take home – isn’t that lovely? Now, for locals this must be a common sight. However, back home – there is no such service provided by the restaurants in KL. I have been to restaurants with my nieces but none have offered anything to keep my nieces busy while waiting for the food. Apart from the brilliant idea to keep children busy at Col Cacchio, the ambience was wonderful and if you choose to try this place out – do try to get a place outside instead of sitting inside. It would make a difference!
The food in Col Cacchio was not a disappointment either. The pizza bread which consists of garlic, olive oil and topped with mozzarella cheese was good - the bread was soft and the amount of ingredients on the pizza was perfect. For main course, the pasta was cooked to perfection just like an authentic Italian cook would cook the spaghetti which is neither too soft nor hard. The pasta sauce (personally, to know if they have the Italian food right is to try the Bolognaise than anything else) was perfect and you can tell the beef was fresh and tomatoes that they used were fresh tomatoes instead of canned tomato paste which we all know some restaurants use ‘smile’. Rackermann had pizza with mushrooms, meat and mozzarella cheese on top. I was too full to even try a bite of his pizza but it did look mouth-watering and from what Rackermann said the taste was worth the money including the size of it!
I’d definitely recommend Col Cacchio if you are in the Stellenbosch area. Even if you are not, the drive to Stellenbosch is definitely worth it!
